Recipes with calculated nutrients

The assistant sends the ingredients; NutraPlanner matches each line to a food, works out the nutrients per serving from the Canadian Nutrient File and checks the recipe against the diet and allergy profiles you name. If a line can't be matched or measured, nothing is saved: the assistant gets candidate foods back to fix it, and no quantity is guessed. A saved recipe is a private draft in your library.

Meal-plan templates filled by NutraPlanner's engine

Describe the template you want (days, meals, diet and allergy profiles, nutrition targets) and NutraPlanner's planning engine fills it from the recipe library. Every placed recipe is checked against the template's restrictions as it is written, and a slot that can't be filled within the strict restrictions is reported as open instead of being filled by relaxing them. The assistant can then swap dishes, fill gaps or rebalance portions.

Drafts only

Everything an assistant writes is a draft for you to review in NutraPlanner. It cannot publish a recipe, activate a plan or acknowledge a safety warning; when a change needs that confirmation, it hands you a link instead.

Profile checks without your rules

For each diet or allergy profile, the assistant learns whether a recipe passes. The food-group rules and nutrient limits behind a profile are never sent to it.

Revoke or switch off at any time

Connecting takes a code from your second factor, and an assistant can never do more than your own account can. NutraPlanner logs every call. You can revoke any connection or token at any time under Settings > Connected apps, and the owners and admins of a team practice can turn AI assistants off for every member.

Client records stay out

A connection works with your recipes, the food database, your diet and allergy profiles, your meal-plan templates and, if you allow it, your practice's own totals, with no client named. It does not read client records. Keep client details out of what you type into the assistant and out of recipe and template titles. Client-aware features are planned and will need each client's recorded consent. See how client data is handled.

How to connect Claude or ChatGPT

  1. Add https://nutraplanner.com/api/mcp as a custom connector in Claude (on the web or in Claude Desktop) or in ChatGPT. In Claude Code, add it with one terminal command. Menus differ by app and plan. Connector availability checked October 2026.
  2. Sign in to NutraPlanner, check what the app is asking to access, and approve with a code from your second factor. Apps that can't add a connector use a personal access token instead, created in NutraPlanner under Settings > Connected apps.
  3. Ask the assistant for a recipe or a meal-plan template, then review the drafts in NutraPlanner before you use them.

The Claude Code command, every tool and the limits are in the MCP developer documentation.

Frequently asked questions

What is MCP?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets an AI assistant call tools in other software. Through NutraPlanner's MCP server, a connected assistant can search foods and recipes, write recipes with calculated nutrients and diet-profile checks, build and edit meal-plan templates and, if you allow it, read your practice's own totals for a calendar month, quarter or year. Everything it writes is saved as a draft for you to review.

Which AI assistants can connect to NutraPlanner?

Claude (on the web, in Claude Desktop and in Claude Code) and ChatGPT connect through a custom connector with sign-in. Other MCP clients that take a configuration file or an HTTP header can use a personal access token. Whether custom connectors are available depends on the app and on your Claude or ChatGPT plan. Connector availability checked October 2026.

Which NutraPlanner plans include AI assistant connections?

The Starter and Professional plans include them; the Free plan does not.

Can a connected assistant read my clients' records?

No. A connection works with your recipes, the food database, your diet and allergy profiles, your meal-plan templates and, if you allow it, your practice's own totals for a calendar month, quarter or year (such as visits, new clients, amounts invoiced and payments received), with no client named. A client can still be identified by anything you type into the assistant or write into a recipe or template title, so keep client details out of both. Client-aware features are planned, and they will need each client's recorded consent before an assistant can use any of their information.

What happens to the data an assistant handles?

What NutraPlanner returns, such as recipes, plans, nutrient figures and practice totals, goes to your AI provider and is handled under your agreement with them, so check its settings for data retention and model training.

How long does NutraPlanner keep what an assistant does?

The record of each call (when, which tool, how it went) is kept for 12 months. The request and our response themselves are kept for 90 days, and only when the assistant saves or analyses a recipe. The audit records of what an assistant changes are kept for at least 10 years. The details are in our privacy policy.
